On September 14, 2011, my wife gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. Despite the sudden fear of future hunting and fishing trips potentially sacrificed upon their arrival, I promised myself I wouldn’t push the outdoors lifestyle on them. Within four years, and to my delight, the pair were willing buddies on scouting trips, had caught their first fish, eaten wild game, and generally enjoyed being in the woods or on the water. What I didn’t realize when I made that vow were the time pressures placed on kids today: soccer, tee-ball, school plays, birthdays, holidays. At some point, I’d have to elbow in a little wild time.
