Recently, I was in Palm Beach’s Café Boulud at a breakfast meeting with interior designer Gil Walsh (whose project graces the cover of this issue) and Gerald Buxbaum of Architectural Resources, and we were discussing ways to promote projects and local designers in the burgeoning Jupiter market. Gil recounted her early days in the Palm Beaches and her attempts to get noticed as a new design arrival. Struggling to find a toehold, she wrote a book about designing with color. With 1,700 square feet of space, three bedrooms, and three baths, the standalone structure that two Manalapan homeowners call their guest cottage is the size of most starter houses. As such, it was a labor of love for all the professionals involved in its creation. Constructed by builder Tim Benitz based on architectural plans by Roger Janssen, the house (mostly used by the aforementioned couple’s children and grandchildren when they visit) features a white tile roof, stucco, and terraces with wide limestone steps and columns. ALYS BEACH STANDS OUT AMONG the picturesque communities along Florida’s Highway 30A thanks to its utopian charm.
