John Deere has brought out some new tractors in its 5R series, which it describes as nimble models for small and medium agricultural operations. The company says the new tractors were designed with the strength of the previous 5R models in mind to maintain a high level of comfort, compactness and performance. The new tractors – the 5090R (90hp), 5100R (100hp), 5115R (115hp) and the 125hp 5125R (pictured) – are all equipped with Stage IIIB/Interim tier 4-compliant 4.5-litre John Deere PowerTech PWX engines. JCB has introduced the new 531-70 and 541-70 Agri Pro Loadalls, featuring Australia’s first two-in-one dual technology transmission – DualTech VT. The new DualTech featured in the telehandlers combines hydrostatic transmission and Powershift drive to bring the best of both into one machine. The 531-70 and 541-70 can lift 3100kg and 4100kg respectively up to a height of 7m. Both new models are powered by tier 4 engines producing 145hp and 516Nm. While some areas have not suffered any decline, others have reduced yield potential by up to 100kg per hectare per year. Recent CSIRO research has found that Australia’s yield potential, particularly in the wheat-growing zone, has experienced a decline of 27 per cent over the last 25 years. The team found that wheat was particularly affected by an average rainfall decline of 2.8mm – or 28 per cent – per cropping season, and a maximum daily temperature increase of around 1C from 1990 to 2015. This poses a risk to Australia’s more than $5 billion per annum wheat industry, which contributes around 12 per cent of the total wheat traded worldwide. New Holland Agriculture has launched the T3F tractor series, which the company is calling “the first ever compact speciality tractors”. With power options ranging from 50hp-72hp, the four models in the series will be only 1.35m wide, will weigh in at 22kg, and be able to perform turns within a radius of 3.4m. The new tractors, available in March, will complete a series of New Holland’s ‘extensive specialty offering’, which includes the T4000F/N/V range. Caterpillar has announced three new Ag Handlers for Cat’s D Series – the TH357D, TH408D and TH3510D. Described as heavy-duty handlers, the new D Series models will be able to handle loads from 3500kg and 4000kg, with maximum lift heights ranging between 7m and 9.8m. With the 111hp Cat C3.4B engine as standard, even the lower-spec end of the range will have plenty of power. However, the 124hp Cat C4.4 ACERT engine is an available option, while the TH408D and TH3510D also can be fitted with a more powerful version rated at 142hp. Precision seeding manufacturer Seed Hawk has created a new metering system it says will allow its air seeders to distribute up to 500kg per hectare of seed and fertiliser at speeds of 15km/h. Väderstad, a family-owned Swedish farm machinery manufacturer, acquired Seed Hawk in 2013. The company assessed the Fenix III in its research and development facility in Sweden before it underwent out-of-season field testing in Canada and Australia. Claas Harvest Centre product manager Marc Nesbit describes the Fenix III as the ‘Mercedes Benz’ of metering systems. “This is most advanced seed metering technology yet developed by Väderstad, which is recognised as a world leader in precision seeding,” he says. Hunter Valley plastic tank and spray equipment manufacturer Rapid Spray has recently marked a decade with Toyota forklifts at its factory and warehouse. The company is currently using four Toyota 8-Series LPG counterbalance forklifts and one Toyota BT reach truck at its manufacturing plant in Singleton, NSW. Rapid Spray manufacturers a range of water and diesel tanks in various shapes and sizes, as well as cartage units and spray equipment.
