As the wife of Butch Doolittle, I’m happy to say we’re a fourth-generation farm family. We have a son named Jody, and he met a beautiful Southern belle, Tonya, who joined our family four years ago. Our farm story began when Ben Doolittle, my husband’s grandfather, purchased 80 acres north of Sedro-Woolley, Washington, around 1920. When Ben passed away, Butch’s father, Allen, took over the farm.
When Butch was 12 years old, his parents sold the farm. They moved the family to a house in town, where Butch became bored. To help his parents pay bills, he started raising rabbits and chickens in the backyard of their rental house. At any one time he’d have about 150 rabbits and 30 chickens.
