My 81-year-old husband, Edward, was looking for a project to keep him busy, so he restored this 1945 Model 42 Silver King. He used to ride motorcycles, race cars, pull trucks, hunt, fish, golf and throw horseshoes. But after heart surgery, back surgery, arthritis and recently being diagnosed with leukemia, he figured he needed a quieter hobby.
Edward found the tractor covered with junk in our neighbor’s barn. He used to farm and run a body shop, so he did all of the machine work and painting himself. He drove down to Plymouth, Indiana, where the Silver King was manufactured, for parts. It took him about a year to finish, and I think he did a pretty good job.…
