“Pragmatism meets fairyland” is how the therapist turned harpist Lisa Tran Kelly — aka Lake Kelly — describes herself. “My parents valued academia and stability, which meant I never really came into my own artistry until I had ticked some pragmatic boxes first,” she says. A quiet life was never on the cards for fashion designer Olivia von Halle. After all, she met her husband Hugo on the dance floor at a psychedelic-trance rave. There are few relationships more intimate than that between a woman and her phone. We carry the devices on our bodies, unlock them with our expectant faces, spend hours peering into them and invite nobody else to do the same.
