We ladybirds are small and lovely colourful beetles. Perhaps that’s why a group of ladybirds is called a loveliness!
As you can see, I’m not your ordinary red and black ladybird. I’m a pretty shade of orange, with transparent wing case edges. Cute!
I wonder if you’ve ever noticed me. I live in ash and sycamore trees, and although I’m not ordinary, I am, in fact, quite common across the UK. There are around 47 different species of ladybirds here – but a whopping 5,000 species worldwide! We come in yellow, brown, red or orange – with black or white spots, and sometimes stripes.
We ladybirds are always welcome in gardens. Why? Because we munch APHIDS, our favourite food! Aphids are those weeny-winged bugs you see clustered…
