The conception of the Volkswagen had begun in 1933 when Adolph Hitler announced at the 1933 Berlin Auto Show the importance of transportation in the form of a small, economical car. This car would be built by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche and displayed at the 1939 Berlin Auto Show as the “People’s Car” or KdF Wagen. Because of the popularity of the KdF Wagen in the late 1930s, there were many German toy manufactures at the time that tooled up and started producing their version of the KdF Wagens in miniature form.
