WHEN SHE lent her vocals to DJ Ganyani’s hit, Talk to Me, audiences pricked up their ears. Now, songbird Layla (real name Nthabiseng Moamohe) is releasing her debut album, Dear Andrew. A pastor’s daughter, the 27yearold talks to us about her passion for music, singing in churches and her promise to God.
When did you realise you had a great voice?
When I was seven years old I used to sing in church at Christian Faith Ministries, where my father, Andrew, was a pastor.
Did your family support your singing?
Yes, they did. We grew up in Pinetown, Durban, and almost the whole family was musical, so when my parents found out I had a voice, they encouraged me to sing.
