WHILE IT was great to be reminded about road safety (Holiday road safety, 22 December), I feel the traffic authorities are not doing enough to cut down on the carnage on our country’s roads. They should use the law that’s at their disposal. Put drunk drivers in jail while they get sober, even if only for 24 hours. That will help them think about their actions a bit longer. Another remedy is to take their driver’s licences away. If the English authorities could suspend Manchester City soccer player Yaya Touré’s driver’s licence for 18 months for being over the legal alcohol limit, why can’t our local legal system do the same?
