Before bricks and mortar, glass and steel, there was adobe architecture. Constructed from bricks cured by sunlight and using the most natural of materials, sand, earth and straw, these houses have stood the test of time beneath the vast open skies of the American Southwest to become one of our most ancient building methods. ‘La Casita’, Kate Davenport Hilgenberg’s 1/12th scale Adobe house, is far removed from its kit origins, incorporating many traditional characteristics. “For 30 years, we have winter vacationed in Arizona and/or New Mexico.
