Should dolls be included in a miniature scene or not? Well, the answer is YES… and NO. It’s complicated, well maybe it’s not really. It depends on the scene and what you want to achieve. Laying aside play scale and children’s toys, which definitely benefit from ‘people’, if you consider the Thorne Rooms, in my humble opinion, they lack nothing and no doll would add to the realism they achieve. With those two bookends in mind, I rarely use dolls in scenes or in project articles. I made several roombox-like display cases of historically accurate Georgian furniture, from a circa 1820 house museum in my area, and I have never used dolls in displaying them, relying instead on personal touches like slippers, books, eyeglasses, sheet music, a coffee cup, food,…
