In March 2020, life in the UK (and for many parts of the world) changed forever. The arrival of Covid-19 brought with it unprecedented new realities and the country as a whole was locked down overnight. Dolls house shows all over the world were cancelled, leaving miniaturists separated and unconnected. It was a sad time on so many levels, but what lockdown did do, was that it reinforced for so many the importance of having a hobby that you love. Despite not being able to meet face to face, the online miniature world went into overdrive and helped to keep so many people connected through their love of all things miniature. If you’re anything like me, you’ll have been glued to the telly every Sunday night for the last couple of months watching the eightpart More4 Great Big Tiny Design Challenge, hosted by the diminutive Sandi Toksvig. For those who’ve spent the last eight weeks on the moon, the series sees miniaturists compete against one another to create tiny furniture, accessories and room sets in 1/12th scale. The series is a miniaturist’s dream come true, an hour-long fix of all things tiny and delicious. Permission for one-time rights usage to the Savage Manor bedroom story and images has been granted to DHMS by the KSB Miniatures Collection for the June 2022 issue. When Kaye Savage Browning envisioned the master bedchamber of her ancestral home in 1/12th scale, she imagined a lush ambiance, elegant textiles and a grand Tudor bed. She wanted it to exude warmth and 16th century comfort through texture and colour, providing a scene which would envelop the viewer in not only history, but imagination. I love miniatures and have done since I was a child. I always wanted a dolls house when I was young but never had one! I love doing crafts and usually have a go at most things, but you just can't beat cute tiny things. I recently cleared out my garden shed and a family of mice had moved in and made such a mess… I thought how cute, they just wanted a home but not in my shed as I'm sure by the summer they would have multiplied considerably and I would have had to move out. This got me thinking, I thought how a mouse house would be a good project, maybe I could make them a house and let them have a little bed and table etc.…
