Q: I caught a really bad flu last winter so this year, as well as getting vaccinated, I’m keen to do everything I can to support my immune system. How do I stay well this winter?
Dr Marsh says: Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet is important for general health and wellbeing but there are a few nutrients that are particularly beneficial to our immune system. These include:
❱ Vitamin C – in citrus fruits, kiwifruit, berries, capsicum, tomato, broccoli and spinach.❱ Zinc – found in fish, seafood, lean meat and poultry, legumes, wholegrains, nuts and seeds, and dairy foods.❱ Vitamin A – in yellow-orange and dark green vegetables such as carrot, pumpkin, sweet potato and spinach. Try to include these foods regularly in your winter meals.
