Sometimes, things just don’t go the way you expect. Like, it was supposed to be a simple, short suburban drive of Fuso’s recently released electric eCanter in Sydney’s west. A refresh, of sorts, of what we’d already experienced in previous stints, first in a Japanese prototype on Fuso’s test track and then, in late 2019, behind the wheel of an early evaluation unit through the streets of Melbourne. What wasn’t expected, however, was that the Sydney stint would be quite so short. Someone, apparently, had forgotten to flick the switch the night before and, rather than a full charge, the dash ‘distance predictor’ said there was only 58km worth of charge in the batteries rather than the reported ‘full charge’ potential of 100km. And so it is that Truck Industry Council (TIC) T-Mark figures for May reach 3,639 units for a year-to-date (YTD) total of 15,179. That’s the top month so far this year, beating March’s 3,558. Those numbers are giving 2018’s top of the last boom May performance – 3,913/15,739 – a serious scare. It’s a relationship that has stood the test of time This is Ross Transport’s 46th year of operation. The business was founded by Alan’s parents, Reg and Frances Ross, in the ‘70s. This was an impressive pull Scania hasn’t wasted any time slipping the new 540hp (403kW) version of its 13-litre Euro 6 engine into the market.
