PARKWOOD mense were stunned with horror after finding the body of an abandoned newborn in a veld on Monday. Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said Grassy Park police officials attended to a complaint at approximately 7.20am regarding a baby lying in a field between Walmer Road and the M5. Van Wyk reported: “Upon arrival, members discovered the body of a male infant with the umbilical cord still attached. “The baby was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics. “An inquest docket has been registered at Grassy Park SAPS for further investigation.” According to people at the scene, the baby appeared to be pre-term at five or six months. WITH violence gripping the Mother City, parents have been left fearing for their children’s safety on the school grounds as more and more learners are being subjected to bullying. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) revealed that a staggering 523 children have fallen victim to bullying during the first two school terms, from January to June 2025 – with a large number of incidents related to gang violence. The WCED Safe Schools centre received 69 reports of alleged bullying, 422 cases of assault on school premises which includes fighting, hitting, kicking, pushing and shoving and 32 stabbings. Fortunately, none of these incidents were fatal. FOUR men were set alight and killed in suspected vigilante attacks in Khayelitsha yesterday morning. The men were allegedly known to have terrorised the community of Enkandla informal settlement and are believed to have died in three separate vigilante attacks. Police on Sunday night responded to a complaint of the body of a male who was burned beyond recognition. While attending to that scene, the officers were alerted to another incident in the same area where two more charred bodies were found. Later, another body was discovered with multiple stab wounds in a resident’s house. It is believed that this incident is related to the other incidents and that the deceased might have been able to escape being burned.
