SIX mense were arrested during a march held in Bonteheuwel on Sunday after skollies threw stones at Pagad Viva members in a confrontation. Pagad Viva Secretary Zahrah Kriel told the Daily Voice that the march was planned following ongoing crime in communities. Kriel said: “The community of Bonteheuwel called on Pagad to assist in taking back the streets and the turnout showed that they had had enough. “During the march, a large group of gangsters came from the opposite direction screaming threats and that was their mistake. “Once they started shouting and walking brazenly towards us, Pagad security ran towards them. Manhole The body was retrieved at 8.30pm using a rope system, however when officials got his body out of the manhole he was declared dead. Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said police officials arrived at the scene at 3.45pm and confirmed that a man believed to be in his 30s was discovered. Van Wyk says: “According to reports SAPS members on duty responded to a complaint of a body found in a black municipal dustbin in a storm water drain at the mentioned address. “A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.” He added that Belhar police are investigating a case of murder. AN ATHLONE primary school learner survived an attempted abduction last week after the perpetrators said she had to get into the car, claiming her mom sent them. Welcome Primary School issued a statement on 19 August informing parents of the incident that happened the previous day saying it is a great concern, but grateful the learner is safe. The school said: “A Grade 5 learner from our school reported that she and her friends were followed by four men in what she believed to be an orange Renault. The men continued to follow them until they reached St Theresa’s Primary School. “When the learner separated from the friends, the men approached her and persistently tried to convince her to get into their car, claiming that her mother had sent them.”…
