THE South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is continuing its review process of social grant beneficiaries suspected of having other sources of income, other than that which they have disclosed. They say they are doing the review to ensure there is no misuse of funds. I have no problem with that, it’s the right thing to do. However, I really wish that the same effort can be used to scrutinise the accounts of politicians, government officials, their friends and family. The billions of rands being lost to corruption is utterly nauseating. A FATHER was shot and killed yesterday morning after 7am in front of a church in Belhar after dropping his two children off at creche. Grant Stephens of Roosendal in Delft was with his wife when they dropped off their two young boys at the Kids World ECD, situated at the Logos Assembly of God Church in Belhar, before heading off to work. TWO laaities have been arrested following the attack on Democratic Alliance (DA) MPs in an attempted smash and grab incident in Browns Farm, Philippi on Tuesday. During an oversight visit in Philippi East, Ian Cameron, Nicholas Gotsell and Lisa Schickerling came under attack inside their vehicle at Eisleben and Govan Mbeki Road. Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said Western Cape Serious and Violent Crimes Unit detectives worked throughout the evening and early hours of Wednesday morning for leads in the investigation into the attack of the three MPs.
