A DISTURBING total of 50 incidents of learner assaults on teachers have been recorded in Western Cape schools since January, translating to nearly 10 assaults per month. Just last week, police were called to investigate an incident at Manenberg High School, where a teacher was allegedly assaulted with a brick by a Grade 9 learner. It is understood that after a school break, some learners jumped over the school fence and the brick was then thrown by one of the learners, hitting the teacher, who had spotted them bunking. Police have confirmed that a counter case has been opened by the learner's parents, claiming he was then assaulted by the teacher. THE South African Police Service (SAPS) are on the hunt for the killer/s of one of their own, after another brazen attack on the heroes in blue. Friday’s incident in Vrygrond, Muizenberg, was the second cop killing in the last month, after an off-duty female officer stationed at Bishop Lavis was shot dead in her vehicle in Langa on 3 May. Cops also came under fire on 22 May, when the Kleinvlei police station was riddled with bullets in an apparent gang attack.
