MEC slams SAPS’ ‘skewed’ deployment of cops

Data Allen said Leap’s deployment is based on data and evidence and where the need is greatest. “It is unclear what informs SAPS’ deployment, as the police to population ratio shows how skewed their allocations are.” National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the deployment will include police officers that will graduate from the Basic Police Learning Development Programme. “These police officers will be deployed to operational units at the top 30 crime weigh police stations in the Western Cape including hotspot areas ahead of the busy festive season,” Mathe explained. “The deployments will be made from the 15th of December following the passing out parade which will be held by the 13th.”…
