THE uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has formally delivered a letter of demand to president Cyril Ramaphosa, calling on him to resign from office by 9am tomorrow. In the letter seen by IOL, among other things, the MK party told Ramaphosa that the decision to appoint Professor Firoz Cachalia as Acting Minister of Police was in contravention of the Constitution, because the academic was not a member of Cabinet or the National Assembly. The worker, only identified as Mr Tsamse by the Johannesburg Labour Court, was fired by Chill Beverages International, which has a zero tolerance for alcohol intake while at work. The CCMA subsequently overturned his dismissal, but the beverages company now turned to the Labour Court to review the CCMA’s finding. THE KwaZulu-Natal Legislature yesterday passed the Division of Revenue Bill with 65 members voting in favour, six against, and there were no abstentions, but the vote exposed a growing rift within the Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP). The ANC’s plan to fix the KwaDukuza Local Municipality has been thrown into turmoil following the mayor Ali Ngidi’s alleged refusal to leave office after the party fired him early this month. According to ANC sources within the region, when the provincial task team coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu announced the removal of Ngidi and his deputy, Njabulo Cele, he gave them two weeks to submit their letters of resignation to the Speaker of the council, Dolly Govender. SOUTH Africa is the custodian of more than 80% of the continent’s white rhino population, which is at risk from poaching and a dwindling population. This was said by Dion George, MP, and Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), said at the Rhino Renaissance Campaign launch on Tuesday. The campaign, one of South Africa’s G20 Legacy Projects, aims to rebuild the white rhino population in the Kruger National Park (KNP) from just over 2 000 to 12 000 within the next decade. Annual statistics revealed that 195 rhino had been poached across South Africa by June 2025, a reduction of 35 compared to the same period in 2024.
