As Ithala Bank battles for survival amid efforts to have it liquidated by the South African Reserve Bank’s Prudential Authority (PA), its clients are struggling financially, and are frustrated with the uncertainty surrounding the institution’s future.
Ithala Bank’s client, Nothando Mkhize, 40, from Malukazi near Isipingo, expressed her deep disappointment: “This is a bank I trusted, but now I can’t even say that I still trust it. Whatever happens moving forward, it’s sad to see a bank I relied on being decimated,” she said. Mkhize added, “We are not involved in these battles, but we’re left struggling to pay the fees charged by other banks.”
