China is the cruise story in 2017, as major cruise lines, such as Princess, Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line, focus on building ships especially for the fast-expanding Chinese market.
And that’s great for Western travellers, too, because Chinese and Japanese demand is leading to more Asian ports opening up to the cruise world.
Home ports include Shanghai and Tianjin, the closest port to Beijing, with the opportunity for pre- and post-cruise land tours. So that gives us an even better chance of seeing places such as the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square in Beijing, or of exploring Shanghai’s The Bund waterfront area, with architectural styles ranging from Gothic to neoclassical, as well as seeing the city’s Buddhist temples and giant pandas…
