UNSURPRISINGLY, given the state of the art and wider worlds, the autumnal Asian Art in London, a festival of exhibitions and auctions founded in 1998, is smaller than in the early days. Then, there were 45 participating dealers and sometimes since there have been more than 50, but for this year’s edition (October 30–November 8), the total is 21. However, there is still variety, the quality is still high and, although there may probably be smaller footfall than in the past, with no Russians and fewer Chinese, the internet makes that less important.
If the number of dealers is smaller, auctions are more numerous: between the end of October and early December, there will be 22, as against 12 in 1998. Furthermore, because there are fewer sales in other fields…
