Bay-leaf character
Lyrarakis, Psarades Dafni, Crete, Greece 2020. £9.25, The Wine Society, alc 12%
Even by Greek standards, Dafni is a pretty obscure grape variety. The name means ‘laurel' in Greek and there's a bay-this unoaked white. Fresh and leafy, with a herby profile, citrus notes and an almost peppery finish. A great discovery wine.
Floral musk
Vasse Felix, Filius Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River, Western Australia 2018. £17–£18, Australian Wines Online, Handford, Roberts & Speight, Specialist Cellars, Wine Direct, alc 14.5%
The Filius line gives you an affordable taste of the premium range. Upfront cassis, cherry, floral musk, integrated oak and graphite, with balancing acidity and chalky tannins.
