This collaboration between Barber Institute MA students and the Royal Collection focuses on an extraordinary collection of drawings, watercolours and prints built up in 17th-century Rome by the antiquarian and collector Cassiano dal Pozzo, patron of artists such as Poussin and Caravaggio. The creation of this visual encyclopaedia of antiquities, architecture, zoology, botany, geology, topography, portraiture, social customs and military maps was inspired by the principles of the Accademia dei Lincei, the first scientific academy, which pioneered the study of Nature through direct observation and experimentation.
