When she couldn’t find a hat she liked for a friend’s wedding some 15 years ago, Jessie Clifford decided to make her own. She created a fascinator – a decorative headpiece fixed with a band or comb – which was a cloud of purple feathers with a little green bird perched on top, and it suited the occasion perfectly.
