As Nat Woods boarded a flight to New York, she burst into tears when hopes of buying her dream home were shattered after receiving a last-minute text message from her husband, Doug. But seven hours and one agonising journey later, Nat’s emotional rollercoaster ended on a rather unexpected high. ‘As soon as I touched down, I called Doug, who explained that there had been a typo in his original message. It was luck. A chance drive an attractive pure past Cotswold stone property resulted in a beautiful new family home for Georgia and Jamie Goss. Jo Macina had planned to be an artist, but after studying art in Poland and moving to London her career path took an unexpected turn. A friend had a house with an overgrown garden and Jo tackled it and started growing fruit and veg – that was it, she was hooked. Whatever the choice of flooring material, the only way to succeed is to have a smooth, perfectly flat surface beneath. • STONE FLOORING is heavy and usually laid on a concrete subfloor, making ground floor installation a must. The subfloor should be clean, damp-free and, if uneven, a layer of levelling compound applied. Over the past couple of years my love of gardening has really grown. Founded in 1962 by Richard Booth in a former fire station on Castle Street, Richard Booth’s Bookshop moved to its present location two decades later. Elizabeth Haycox and her husband Paul Greatbatch bought the business in 2007 and it remains the oldest – and largest – bookshop in the town. Owner Elizabeth shares their story… WHERE ARE YOU? Bright colours and bold patterns are key ingredients of Amelia Bowman’s work, along with land and seascape designs inspired by the Norfolk coast and countryside, where she grew up. ‘We lived in a Tudor farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, but within striking distance of the beautiful Norfolk beaches,’ she says. ‘My father is Cornish and sails, so there were annual trips to Cornwall, and my parents had a holiday home on the Suffolk coast, so we spent a lot of time there.
