Over a year ago, we started our journey with an empty lot in the mountain-rimmed and big sky city of Salt Lake City, Utah. We met Cara and Tom Fox, the incredible husband-wife duo behind the full-service residential design and construction firm, The Fox Group, and owners of the cute boutique shop filled with all sorts of home treasures, The Fox Shop. The following months brought on an onslaught of challenges, including setbacks due to weather, recovering supply chains and the typical holdups always faced in new constructions. With big life changes comes the opportunity to hit the reset button on a variety of things, including home design. Recent empty nesters Mindy and David decided to revamp their Los Angeles home to give it a fresh look and feel that better represented their style and met their practical needs. They brought on interior designer Alison Kandler to help hone their vision and bring it to life. Formerly an art director, Alison is a self-taught designer with around 25 years of experience. When viewing a rundown house for sale, if you can look beyond the cosmetics and see great bones, it might just be worth the investment. That was the case for design duo Sapna and Karan Aggarwal of Bungalowe. This historic 1928 Spanish-style home in Highland Park, Los Angeles, didn’t look like much from the outset. “It was completely uninhabitable, a dilapidated home,” Sapna says. But she loved the historic Spanish style, and her husband, Karan, loved the lot with many opportunities for the indoor-outdoor living style so desirable in California.
