Homeowners Kate and Demo knew it was time to make big changes to their Arlington, Virginia, cottage, taking it from small to spacious so there would be room to grow for their family of five. They hired Cindy Eyl, owner and principal designer of Jefferson Street Designs, to oversee the renovation of Demo’s childhood home. Cindy explains how and when she became attached to the project. “We’ve been fortunate to collaborate with great architects in the DC/Northern Virginia area and the client’s architect recommended our design firm,” she says. “We were brought in after the architectural plans were finalized and demolition had already begun. Artist Jennifer Lanne is nationally known for her colorful, vintage-style paintings of florals, landscapes and farm animals. At one time, though, it was more likely she would have revealed her artistic talents to only a select few through her cooking and baking skills or her fabulous flower arrangements. “I had formal schooling in cooking,” Jennifer says. In school, however, she learned that the part of cooking she loved was only a small portion of what she needed to know to operate a restaurant successfully. As a result, she became a floral designer—another artistic vocation. “I never grow tired of flowers or color,” she says. We held our annual curb appeal contest in the spring of 2023—and the response was amazing! Homeowners from all over the country submitted their homes for consideration and after a group of finalists was named, voting began. It was a close race, but the home of Annie Diamond of New Canaan, Connecticut, was our winner! The Diamonds have lived in their shingled, cottage-style home for the past four years—thanks to a twist of fate. “We originally bought the beach house to rent out to others while we lived in another home nearby,” Annie explains. “But when an offer to purchase our full-time home came unexpectedly, we decided to accept it and make the beach house our permanent home.” Built in 1920, the house is just an hour by car or…

After spending a lifetime living with others, she purchased a small Craftsman bungalow in San Diego, California, and envisioned filling it with music, pawprints and parties.
