A PORTABLE GAS burner is handy as a spare stove on holidays and for power outages, during kitchen remodeling, when traveling in an RV, and for cooking outdoors—or even tableside, provided you have the good indoor ventilation that gas burners require. We tested four models. On our wish list: plenty of cooking power, excellent temperature control, simple operation, and easy maintenance.
Our burners ranged from 7,600 BTUs to 15,000 BTUs, and even the weakest heated well, boiling water quickly. Two were single-fuel (butane); two were dual-fuel, meaning they also work with propane.
