“If I were a fish,” Katy told her mom, “I would be in water all the time. I would swim in water and eat in water and even breathe in water.” Katy was getting fish for her birthday, so she had been learning all about them.
She waved her arms like fins, which made waves in her bathwater. She kicked her feet, which made bubbles. She kicked harder. “Look at all the bubbles, Mom!”
“Look at all the water on the floor,” said her mom. “Sorry,” said Katy. She swished her bubbles around. “These are soapy bubbles, aren’t they? If I were a fish, they would make me sick.”
“That’s right.” Her mom pulled the plug.
After her bath, Katy stopped to check the glass box sitting on the kitchen…
