The 1980s was a curious time for the family car – hatchbacks were the big new thing that blended capacious boots with more compact dimensions, but many traditionalist buyers preferred the more conventional look of a booted saloon. Ford was quick to capitalise on this demand, sticking a tail on the Mk3 Escort to create the Orion, and while many were used and abused as rep cars in period, Car Cave Scotland’s 1985 car is surely one of the nicest survivors.
