Concerns are growing for the future of free classic car shows if more volunteer marshals can’t be found. Factors such as time constraints and even abuse from the public have served to limit the amount of people willing to assist with car parking, directing traffic, keeping cars inside the event, and heeding age cut-offs.
As free and low-cost shows surge in popularity, getting suitable staff has become harder, organisers say, especially when an eye is being kept on costs. Without the cars, there’s no show; but without the show, cars won’t gather.
