Morgan and iconic Italian design house Pininfarina have collaborated to produce a new model named Midsummer’, a special project based on Morgan’s latest bonded aluminium platform and powered by a BMW-sourced six-cylinder engine found in the production Plus Six. Just 50 examples are to be made, with each already sold for an undisclosed. Each buyer will take delivery of a hand-finished barchetta-style sports car complete with lengthened rear end, hand-formed stainless steel lower sills, bespoke forged alloy wheels and aerodynamically optimised versions of the trademark Morgan front wings. Other bespoke design elements include exposed wooden structures – a part of Morgan’s traditional construction method that usually stays hidden. Morgan says more than 400 layers of sustainably sourced teak are laminated to create these elements, extending into the car’s leather-trimmed cabin.…

It’s easy to forget that as well as worthy bread-and-butter cars like the Hillman Minx, Rootes Group also produced some stylish and exotic-looking machinery like the H120 Rapier – and St Andrew’s Autos’ example shows why it’s worth your attention. A first-year example, this 1968 car looks stunning in metallic powder blue with side stripes and shows no signs of any bodywork damage or rust. The Dunlop wheels – as seen on the Hillman Avenger Tiger – look similarly smart and suit the Rapier’s fastback silhouette perfectly. As part of a year of celebrations of its 50th anniversary, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has announced a Golden Jubilee Tour, which will take place on September 21 and feature 50 vehicles supplied through Mitsubishi’s UK dealer network between 1974 and the present day. Tour entrants will assemble at Mitsubishi Motors in the UK headquarters at Watermoor in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, for a briefing and light breakfast, before embarking on a route of just over 100 miles that will take them on a journey through the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Enthusiasts and their families are supporting the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu by donating their classic vehicles through a new Memorial Motors scheme. Now fully up and running, the scheme can help families with the dilemma of what to do with a loved one’s cherished vehicle after they have passed away, as well as giving enthusiasts who are no longer able to look after their classic a positive way to pass it on and to help make a difference. As a charitable organisation which does not receive core government funding, the museum relies upon the generous donations of its supporters. The 944-based 968 was seen for the revised but aged model it was, and the 928 was down to selling in indifferently small numbers. Stuttgart needed a new, profitable model to get things back on track, and duly presented a new concept at the 1993 Detroit Motor Show. And while there are nuances in each organisation’s response, both want to see changes made to enable more classics to retain their original registration numbers, as opposed to being allocated a Q registration. Classics and custom cars delighted visitors in Hayes on Saturday May 11, all while making deep donations for Nishkam SWAT, a charity supporting the homeless and underprivileged. A glorious clear evening saw a Mk1 Cortina join several German gems and Italian icons. The charity relies on hundreds of committed volunteers throughout the week for outreach services in dozens of locations. It takes the Sikh faith teaching and practice of ‘Langar’ to the streets, to share food and serve humanity – Nishkam meaning ‘selfless’. Donations help fund this important operation with essential purchases, including running and maintaining a fleet of service vehicles. Clearly it takes guts to modify a classic car that’s already rare, but the owner of this Spydercars-converted Plus 2S 130/5 clearly felt the ends justified the means, spending £27,000 between May and December of 2006 to fit an uprated chassis, a 2.0-litre Ford Zetec engine, and a five-speed MT75 gearbox with a limited-slip differential. If you’ve not heard of Spydercars, it’s a Peterborough-based Lotus specialist that’s spent decades uprating Hethel’s finest. In the case of this car, the replacement chassis featured uprated steering and suspension hardware, including tubular upper and lower front wishbones, Sierra hubs, Spydercars’ own hub carriers and uprated brake with callipers from an Escort RS Turbo. Aft of the chassis, lower wishbones supplanted the ‘Chapman Strut’ A-frame arrangement used by the original. The result was a…

Rover’s immediate post-war range was outdated; the P2 and P3 were carryovers from the pre-war range, and while the mechanicals were of use, the bodies were desperately antiquated. In contrast, inspiration for the P4 would come from Studebaker. Rover even used the body of an imported Champion to disguise a chassis on test, creating the well-known ‘Roverbaker’ mule. The first Rover P4 was the 75 of 1949. Fitted with a single central fog lamp which gave it the nickname of ‘Cyclops’, the slender tail and sharper nose meant that it far more closely resembled the Studebakers from which it drew influence than later models. Having been mercifully spared the recent myriad disappointments to bear the Lancia name, we Brits can still associate the brand with stylish, exotic Italian machinery that today makes for extremely tempting left-field classics. The Gamma Coupe is one of the lesser remembered models, but witness a nice example like the gorgeous 1979 car offered by Turn Two Classics, and you’ll kick yourself for ever forgetting it. Owned by its previous owner for 12 years and used sparingly in that time, this Blue Scuro Gamma presents beautifully. The bodywork is straight, with Turn Two describing the paintwork as flawless, and indeed it appears to have a lovely lustre with absolutely zero rust on top or underneath. With TVR’s modern resurrection stalled, it’s always pleasing to see a nice example of one of the brand’s icons, and the Taimar 3000 offered by St Andrew’s Autos is exactly that. A well-known car in TVR circles, this 1977 car was subject to a full body-off restoration in 2015 and according to the dealer, still presents well nearly a decade on. With zero rust on the chassis, you’re free to admire the straight and uncracked fibreglass bodywork, resplendent in a suitably lairy shade of yellow and nicely finished off with ‘TAIMAR’ graphics and sidewinder stripes. The correct Wolfrace Slot Mag wheels were also refurbished and suit the ’70s lines perfectly, while a new Webasto sunroof was also fitted during the resto and looks lovely in tan against the yellow paintwork.…
