A 1972 Fiat 500 Jolly evocation owned by British Formula One superstar, Lando Norris, has sold for £32,000 via online marketplace Car & Classic. The ‘Jolly’ version of the classic Fiat 500 was built by Italian styling house Ghia, and with only around 650 created, survivors are rare and highly prized. As a result, it is not uncommon for original Fiat 500s to be converted to the doorless, open-air Jolly configuration, complete with the iconic wicker seats and canopy roof. Norris’ evocation is finished in a light blue ‘gelato’ hue and is powered by a 499cc air-cooled engine paired with a four-speed manual ‘box. The MG Car Club has confirmed that 2023 will mark the end of its 70-year run as a circuit racing organiser. Like several other one-make clubs, the MGCC has been unable to stem the tide of rising circuit and car preparation costs and diminishing entries, meaning that circuit racing is no longer viable going forwards. In 2022, it became apparent that there was a risk of being unable to cover the costs of racing in 2023. However, the decision was made to press ahead with racing in support of the MG marque’s centenary, subject to cost savings being made wherever possible. The three two-day meetings with Equipe Classic Racing and two one-day meetings were all successful events. Closely fought contests on track and great camaraderie in the paddock justified the…

Goodwood has announced the race card for its 81st Members’ Meeting set to take place on the weekend of April 13-14, 2024. The previously announced Can-Am demonstration and Ken Miles Cup – celebrating 60 years of the Ford Mustang – will be joined by a further 10 races. Included as part of the festivities will come the popular Gordon Spice Trophy for 1960s and 1970s classics such as the Ford Capri Mk3 and Rover SD1, the Graham Hill Trophy for the likes of the Jaguar E-Type and AC Cobra, and the Surtees Trophy for 1960s classics including the McLaren M1A and Ford GT40. Ahmedabad-based businessman Daman Thakore has embarked on a special journey in a cherished classic to mark 76 years of India’s independence as well as a personal family milestone. Motorists in Hertfordshire are being warned about fake ULEZ signs that have been appearing in the county. Following the expansion of London’s Ultra-Low Emission Zone in August, Hertfordshire County Council has refused to allow ULEZ signage to be displayed in the county, but fake signs have appeared in Rickmansworth and Croxley Green containing QR codes which, when scanned with a mobile phone, take users to a fraudulent payment website or explicit adult content. The real ULEZ signs contain no links to payment websites. Herts County Council highways officers have been busy removing the signs, but motorists are being warned to be extra vigilant. Payment for entering the zone in a non-compliant vehicle should only be made via the TfL website: tfl.gov.uk.…

Austin Pedal Cars has unveiled the final development version of its J40 Continuation. Production of the iconic original J40 pedal cars, originally made by the Austin Motor Company made from scrap metal taken from the Longbridge factory, ran between 1949-1971. Austin Pedal Cars secured the trademark in 2022 allowing them to manufacture pedal cars using the Austin name. The J40 Continuation has been developed entirely in-house and features a hand-formed aluminium body accurately replicating lines of the original, plus an all-new pedal system that has been engineered to automotive tolerances. SWVA’s final auction of 2023 took place on October 27, with the 83-strong sale catalogue resulting in a hugely impressive 95 per cent sell-through rate. A mixture of tried and tested models was joined by numerous modern classics, many of which sold for temptingly affordable sums. However, the biggest star of the day had to be a 1970 Mini 1275GT in the rare hue of Antelope. Its £4000-£5000 estimate looked to be modest, and so it proved as it soared to a selling price of £16,450 plus fees. It wasn’t the only Mini to perform well though, as a 2000 Rover Cooper Sport beat its £9500 upper estimate to be hammered away for £12,100. This week, we rewind to 1976 and the scene at the rear of Green Park Station in Bath. Following the Beeching Report, passenger trains ceased from 1966 and the last goods train ran in 1971, leaving the former track area to be used as a public car park. Most of the cars we see are British, including a couple of Austin Maxis, two Hillman Imps, two Hunters, Ford Cortinas in Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 guises, a Mk1 Escort, two Mk2 Capris, a couple of Anglias, various Triumphs, at least three ADO16s, a Vauxhall Viva HB and a rather tatty BMC Farina saloon. Car clubs looking to digitise their archive collections are being encouraged to book a space on a free-to-attend workshop taking place next week. The Federation of Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) and scanning partner, Genus, is holding the event in Nuneaton on November 16. It is designed to encourage vehicle clubs looking to preserve their archives to take the step into the digital world. Andy Bye, FBHVC Director of Archives & Museums, said: “This will introduce what could be the next stage in preserving your club archives and making them accessible and is designed to demystify the whole process. Hobbs Parker’s third and final classic car sale of 2023 took place at its auction centre in Kent on October 18-19, working to its usual timed online format. An impressive 80 entries would go on to find new homes, with plenty of variety among them. The biggest figure of the sale was achieved by a 997-generation 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera that sold for £36,000, with a 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 FHC project changing hands for £25,575. Not far behind was a 1909 Renault AX, which was comfortably the oldest vehicle in the sale at a remarkable 114 years and sold for an impressive £24,750.
