Caterham has revealed a new concept version of its iconic Seven with electric power. Built in collaboration with Swindon Powertrain, the EV Seven uses familiar Seven architecture but runs a 51kWh immersion-cooled battery pack and motor to provide a useable capacity of around 40kWh. Caterham says that the car tests the feasibility of an electric Seven, and it is capable of up to 152kW rapid charging enabling it to drive on track for 20 minutes before recharging in 15 minutes, providing it with enough energy to drive for a further 20 minutes. Driving dynamics should not be adversely affected by the additional weight of the EV system, with Caterham claiming an increase of less than 70kgs. BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT COUPE (2003-2011) Volkswagen’s purchase of Bentley in 1998 had more than a few traditionalists concerned. The history of German brands buying English automotive institutions didn’t have a flawless track record, but when the first product of the union emerged from Crewe in 2003, most enthusiasts were pleased by Belgian designer Dirk van Braeckel’s work. The coupe arrived first and that’s the model we are looking at here. It was the first Bentley to employ mass production techniques and was powered by a meaty 552bhp 6-litre W12 engine. And that W12 engine really is the talking point. It’s effectively two VW VR6 motors joined together, and in Continental GT application it uses two KKK turbochargers to give it more power than the versions used in other VAG stablemates.…

Offering the same mid-engined layout, the second-generation MR2 proved to be an immediate hit. The Mk2’s arrival ushered in more curvaceous styling, and with new 2.0-litre engines, Toyota’s baby Ferrari was faster, better-equipped and a more sophisticated machine than before. Hyundai has recreated its iconic Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed Pony Coupe concept 50 years after the original made its debut at 1974’s Turin Motor Show. Unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event at Lake Como on May 20, the Pony Concept is completely faithful to the original, which recently inspired the Hyundai’s N Vision 74 concept. The Pony Coupe concept was a ground-breaking model in its day. Indeed, its futuristic aesthetic might have informed the design of Hyundai’s first sports car were it not for the difficult global economic conditions in the late 1970s prohibiting the brand’s entry into the sector. A 1936 SS Jaguar 100 that competed in the 1937 Monte Carlo and RAC rallies is heading to auction next week. This significant vehicle, which has been the subject of a comprehensive 10-year restoration and now presents in concours condition, will form part of the H&H Classics Duxford sale on 14 June.
