Launched a year after the Stag, the ‘R107’ generation of SL lasted all the way up to 1989. It’s a very stylish way to enjoy drop-top motoring, and while the six-cylinder cars are more than capable it’s hard to resist the appeal of the V8. Good ones fetch strong money, but these SLs do rot and major restoration will be a costly affair. Avoid that pitfall, though, and you’ll discover just why they are so sought-after.
