For those nostalgia seekers of the ’90s who wanted their Cooper to be even more in touch with its sporting heritage, from 1997 Rover offered the optional Sports Pack, which added 13-inch alloy wheels with a wider diameter, extended wheelarches to accommodate them, red Koni dampers, two front foglamps in addition to the Cooper-spec twin spotlamps, a sports-style accelerator pedal, a voltmeter and oil temperature gauge in the centre fascia, and a chrome tailpipe trim piece. There was also a different steering rack, but contrary to common belief this had the same ratio as the standard item, having only a reduced range of travel so the wider wheels and tyres wouldn’t foul the inner wings.
