Taken almost exactly 58 years ago, on August 2, 1964, is this classic shot of Hastings, East Sussex. The seaside town is packed with people and traffic, which is hardly surprising, as August Bank Holiday fell on the first rather than the last weekend of the month back then.
It’s a predictable mix of all-British cars and commercials, with those on the move comprising a rare Triumph Herald Coupe ahead of a Ford Popular 100E, while in the other direction we can see a 1950s Hillman Minx, a brace of BMC ‘Farina’ saloons (one of them an A60 Cambridge), plus a couple of guys on a scooter.
