This fascinating photograph was taken on closing day of the Apple boutique, run by The Beatles’ fledgling Apple Corps and located on the corner of Baker Street and Paddington Street, Marylebone. The shop had opened in December 1967, created as “a beautiful place where beautiful people can buy beautiful things”, according to Paul McCartney. By July 31, 1968, however, it was closing its doors for good – and this image shows the crowds that gathered in the hope of grabbing a bargain.
