Born out of chance, the Triumph Stag first came to life as nothing more than an independently built show car. In 1964, automotive stylist Giovanni Michelotti had been working on converting a Triumph 2000 saloon into a 2+2 convertible grand tourer. However, upon seeing Michelotti’s creation while paying him a visit, Triumph engineering boss Harry Webster was smitten, and quickly worked on a deal to bring the design back in-house to Triumph.
