Next year will see the iconic Jaguar E-Type reach its 60th birthday, and to mark the occasion, the E-Type Club is planning a celebratory weekend on June 12-13 at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcestershire. Morgan history can be a confusing subject but two things are generally understood: the engine in the nose of a Morgan can be from any of half a dozen makers but the basic design of ash framed body on steel chassis hasn’t changed since… well, ever. Following a belated but successful launch to its Simply rally season last month, Beaulieu has announced that Simply French will be the latest event to join its burgeoning calendar. Scheduled for September 6, it takes the total of 2020 Simply events up to 15 and is open to all vehicles built in France or by a French manufacturer. To ensure safety, participant capacity is limited and tickets are only available to purchase on a pre-booked basis. New procedures have been introduced and vehicles will be allocated specific bays on arrival to ensure social distancing requirements are met. Aselection of cars from the famous Vauxhall Heritage collection will be on public display next month for the first time in its 72-year history. Entitled ‘Vauxhall – Made in Luton’, the exhibition will be hosted at the town’s Stockwood Discovery Centre from September 5 and will feature 10 important Griffins from the marque’s 115-year past. I’ve finally managed to get the Range Rover in for an inspection and as it turns out, the news isn’t so bad. I brought the car into Bishops 4x4 in Yaxley, Cambridgeshire, as they always seem to have quite a few Range Rovers outside, with the instruction to have a look at the front suspension and the erratic behaviour of the central locking system. Apparently our car has had all new polyurethane bushes at the front, so our wandering front end isn’t down to any slack in the suspension joints. There will be some slack caused by the worn anti-roll bar drop links, they said, and that explains the creaking from the front, but otherwise ours actually drives pretty well for a P38. The stretches of M25 leading up to the Dartford crossings are the slowest motorways in England, new research has revealed. According to Comparethemarket.com, 11 stretches of motorway across have an average speed of less than 30mph, with the sections leading up to the crossing the worst at a measly 24.6mph and 25.1mph. In all, 11 of the 50 slowest sections of motorway are on the M25, with eight accounted for by the M5. Overall, the South East, West Midlands and North West are home to the slowest motorways. Third and fourth on the list are two sections M67 westbound near Denton in Greater Manchester, while the M5 northbound near Oldbury completes the top five.…

Brooklands Museum has been awarded a grant of £250,000 to help secure its future amid financial challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the museum was closed until August 1, the cost of looking after its collections, buildings and site continued. The funding was awarded through The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Heritage Emergency Fund. In all, £50million has been made available to provide emergency funding for those most in need across the heritage sector. Tamalie Newbery, Director and CEO for Brooklands Museum, said: “This grant enables Brooklands Museum to remain open to visitors and continue its work preserving the Brooklands site and collection, to inspire generations of the future. From our perspective working on classic car titles it’s always been fascinating to observe different car makers’ attitudes to their own history. Some simply pretend the past never existed and others draw heavily on their heritage for marketing and even back this up with a private collection of highlights from the back catalogue. Working on the latest issue of CCB’s sister magazine, Rolls-Royce & Bentley Driver, commenting on various cars I’d spotted coming to market, I recently came across a Silver Shadow that was completed in 1980 but wasn’t first registered – as a new car – until December ’83.
