This month, we publish the winners of our 2019 CB Awards (p40). At times like this, it’s worth pausing to remember why people go to the lengths that our winners did in order to restore, or build, these vessels. Boats, John Ruskin once wrote are, at their best, works of art and some of us might think them better still. Others have said that boats, as a generality, are the most important objects in human history. For many, the fevered enthusiasm will stem from the peerless grace and feel of a fast yacht making way under sail.
