Saturday, May 7, 2022, was the Renewal Opening of the East Lillooet Memorial Garden. The East Lillooet Seniors’ Garden Committee, in partnership with the District of Lillooet, transformed the original garden built in 2018 into a beautiful “Lillooet style,” contemporary rock garden. It was a glorious day, with over 300 people in attendance to honour and celebrate the families and stories of the East Lillooet internees. Built by our volunteer team, it was a labour of love and light.
The garden is a memorial started by two brothers, Dr. Aki Horii, a retired family doctor, and Louis Horii, a retired Richmond carpenter and house builder.
