Today I am sitting at my desk sorting through the business cards I have collected and making notes of all the stories, news and ideas that have emerged from a busy boat show in Palm Beach. I am doing this as fast as possible before the memories fade. THE NEXT BIG THING As Y-721 prepares to take the crown as the world's largest sailing yacht, she continues to attract attention wherever she goes The wraps are coining off Oceanco's new flagship, the super-secret sailing yacht known as Project Y-721. No designer names have come out yet, but recent photos have revealed a few details of the classically styled yacht, such as an aft deck pool and retractable bowsprit chair. I was born and raised in Split, Croatia, but on my mother's side my origins are from a little place called Omiš, south of Split. As a child, as soon as school was over, I spent the summers at our house in Omiš, across the road from the beach. The whole family, 30, 40 of us, would be together. High times at Lürssen A slew of big boats recently emerged from Lürssen. The first to splash and seventh-largest yacht launch at Lürssen to date was 476ft Luminance, with a striking exterior design by Espen Øino International (EOI) and interior by Zuretti Interior Designers. What's the overall design focus for American Magic's chase boat? The boat is very much like a Formula car. Performance is the main priority. We chose a very sleek profile and an enclosed cockpit because we had to consider that the boat would be used many hours a day at high speeds. We chose the catamaran design for two reasons. First, it was the best way to create space on board, and second because we are soon launching a Bluegame catamaran, which will debut at Cannes. BOAT LIFE The 238ft Lürssen Coral Island was moored in France, in Antibes’ Port Vauban undergoing repairs in March 1999, when a portrait by Picasso of his lover, Dora Maar, disappeared from one of the suites. A professional art handler had been hired to remove the owner's art collection – which included not just Buste de Femme, as the work was known, but another Picasso and a Matisse – for safekeeping.
