Founded by Johann Rupert, chairman of luxury group Richemont, and former chairman of Cartier Franco Cologni, the Michelangelo Foundation is a non-profit institution devoted to highlighting the work of European artisans. Entirely self-funded, it was created with the intention of encouraging artisanal commissions and promoting the transfer of centuries-old skills to future generations through scholarships and other initiatives.
The most ambitious of these is the Homo Faber Guide, a curated online database of ateliers from across the continent, specializing in a wide range of disciplines. You can browse through a list of Europe’s finest woodworkers, silversmiths, cabinet makers, glass-blowers, book binders, instrument makers, board-makers, basket weavers, metal sculptors, milliners, embroiderers and more.
