Cox Powertrain is to open a production facility in Florida to meet rising interest in its 300hp diesel CXO300 outboards in the US. Intrepid Powerboats president Ken Clinton says Cox’s diesel outboards – 10 years in the making – are appealing to yacht captains and owners because no one likes carrying gasoline on yachts. In 1905, Ulysse Nardin entered a competition organized by the Washington Naval Observatory, whose goal was to create a precision timepiece for torpedo boat officers that was as accurate as the chronometers aboard larger warships. The brand won the contest several years in a row and became the official timepiece supplier to the US Navy. A new iteration of the watch has recently been created: the Marine Torpilleur Military Semper Fortis. The watch shares many features with the original chronometer, including its polished steel case, oversize crown and dial layout. Designer Bernardo Zuccon worked hard on studying crew workflow patterns so that service could function smoothly while respecting guests’ privacy, no matter what the hour. Crew quarters and mess are on the lower deck, connected to the galley via a dedicated staircase. Another crew staircase runs to the bridge. “Crew workspaces and access routes are all on the port side of the yacht, separate from the routes that guests use,” Zuccon says. A food lift runs from the galley to a pantry on the upper deck, then is perfectly integrated into the sushi bar on the sundeck. When was your company formed? We started up in 2003 as Rainsford Saunders Design, and we changed the name to Rainsford Mann Design in 2010 soon after we started work on Illusion Plus. In October, Feadship’s 305ft Project 814 was slowly towed out of her construction hall. It soon dominated the landscape around the quaint Dutch village of De Kaag as it lay quayside for further outfitting of its mast, balconies and wing stations. When her two brothers told her in the same week that they were considering selling their boats because they hardly used them, Boatsetter CEO Jackie Baumgarten knew she’d found a new career. The online boat rental firm is on target to have 5,000 (vetted) listings available by the end of 2018. Mike Potter is trim and fit at 74 and as comfortable in a flight suit as in a wetsuit. The owner of 192ft explorer Seawolf is an honorary colonel in the Royal Canadian Air Force and displays a very Canadian modesty about his accomplishments.
