On February 16-17, 2019, the International Academic Conference for Taekwondo took place at Stanford University in California. The conference featured numerous academics from around the world, as well as representatives from several taekwondo global organizing bodies. It was the third such event organized by Ron Dziwenka, Ph.D. (Salisbury University; Salisbury, Maryland) and John A. Johnson, Ph.D. (Keimyung University, South Korea). This year’s meeting was conducted in partnership with Stanford University’s Center for East Asian Studies and Stanford Athletics.
Many notable figures in taekwondo academics and competition attended, including Herb Perez, Woo Jin Jung, Ali Ghafour, James Kim and Jin Song. The event received further support from Ken Min, Tim Ghormley, Russell Ahn and Allan Bäck. The conference highlighted the most recent taekwondo research projects while focusing on the social sciences.…
