Dirk Serries is, next to Steve Roach, probably the most important Ambient artist after Brian Eno. In the mid-80s, he developed his underground noise project VidnaObmana into music filled with almost painful melancholy and beauty. His first „Trilogy“ and „The River of Appearance“, recorded between 1990 and 1992, are now considered classics, and rightly so. At the height of his reputation, however, the Antwerp artist ended the project - and made a radical change of course.
Under the new name Fear Falls Burning, he discovered the guitar and hypnotic-minimal Post Rock for himself, later even diving into the world of Free Improvisation. In addition, however, he returned again and again to the atmospherically dense worlds of his early phase.
